Kitschy compositions hold no fear for Dutch artists Liet Heringa (*1966 's‑ Hertogenbosch, NL) and Maarten van Kalsbeek (*1962 Oegstgeest, NL): far from it! The poured plastic objects that make up Blossoming gleam and shimmer with the iridescent colours of the rainbow, their forms calling to mind flowers, sea creatures and unknown growing organisms. Commissioned for the cafeteria in The Hague, this sculpture playfully explores the secrets of nature, its growth and development. The polymorphism of the forms gives each and everyone a chance to find something that evokes a personal impression of the richness of the world's flora and fauna. Each of these five individual worlds contains a small porcelain doll like a castaway on an unknown island. The objects are attached to a steel frame suspended from the ceiling, bringing the composition - which even casts shadows on the wall - one step closer to decorative mobiles.
