During the Long Night of Museums in Munich on 16 October 2021, the European Patent Office is showing a film about its art collection, which is not usually open to the public.
Moreover, for the first time, night tours are being offered on the artworks in the grounds of the EPO buildings. These works will be illuminated to optimum effect as part of a light installation created by Munich video artist Raphael Kurig especially for the Long Night of Museums.
The European Patent Office is now offering Munich audiences extensive insight into its collection of international contemporary art in the German version of the documentary entitled “Exploring Art at the European Patent Office”; after the film, interested members of the public will have an opportunity to put their questions to the curator of the EPO art collection in a live chat.

With its documentary “Exploring Art at the EPO”, the European Patent Office is providing unique insights into the founding and development of its art collection. Produced to mark the 40th anniversary of the collection, the film highlights the importance of art in the workplace and includes interviews with employees. The film was shot in four countries and features over 50 key works from the collection, taking the audience on a tour through six artists' studios and presenting the architects of the EPO's Munich headquarters, where its patronage of the arts began. For the first time, the film will be shown in German during The Long Night of Museums in Munich.
