It can be easy to feel somewhat overwhelmed by the science of space and time. Nevertheless, this installation by Katarína
Poliačiková (*1982, Myjava, SK) attempts to come to terms with aspects of time and space in one fell swoop. To the left are
some rather blurred black and white photographs from an astronomy book published around the time of the artist’s birth; to
the right, a quite similar set of images, only sharper and in colour, retrieved from a NASA online archive of 2013. As East
meets West and the internet shapes the artist’s life and work, the question as to which set of images most faithfully depicts
the known universe is left to the viewer’s imagination. As the cosmos, world history and the course of our lives continues
to evolve, a startling but incomplete symmetry emerges.
