Although
Günther Selichar (*1960 Linz,
AT) works extensively with photography he does not consider himself a photographer. His interest
lies in the spaces in between, medial interference, reciprocal borrowings and areas
of conflict between analogue and digital production techniques. The EPO
collection includes three of his works from two separate series. The series Screens,
coldWho's afraid of Blue, Red and Green? - 6
Variations depicts switched-off monitors, highlighting their superficial
structure. Selichar thus re-casts the carrier material as the actual picture. The title is in itself an
homage to Barnett Newman's radical experimentation with colour and his famous
painting Who's afraid of Red, Yellow and
Blue? In his work, Selichar uses the RGB model's three primary colours,
which have become an integral part of the technical imaging process and can be
blended to form millions of new shades.
